Dear Parents/Guardian(s),
Welcome to St. Margaret Mary Catholic School. My name is Samantha Marshall and I will be your child’s Pre-K teacher. It is a privilege for me to help you form your child into a young Catholic Disciple.
Here is some information for this school year.
Our preschool program is designed to developed basic concepts, attitudes, and skills as well as to capitalize on each child’s propensity to create. At all times the development of your child’s self-esteem and confidence is a paramount importance. To build a board foundation for your child’s success as a student, we will be focusing upon these essential early childhood skills:
- Socialization
- Language development
- Eye-hand coordination
- Manual Dexterity
- Small Muscle Control
- Conceptual development
- Shape and numeral recognition
- Following Directions
- Perceptual discrimination
- Listening
- Color awareness
During the first month of school the children will get to know one another and we will establish some school routines and rules. Our readiness activities will mark our entry into the wonderful world of coloring, shapes, numbers, and letters. We will be singing, painting, coloring, learning about our faith, playing and more.
We do a lot of hands on exploration activities in the classroom that may cause your child to get dirty. Please make sure that your child has a complete changes of clothes. (socks, underwear, shorts, shirt, etc.)
At the beginning of each month you will receive a newsletter explaining about what's in store for the next month. Also, a purple folder has been sent home to practice certain skills at home. Parental involvement is very important to the academic success of your child. My goal is for each child going into Kindergarten know 18 capital letters, 15 lowercase letters, and 14 letter sounds, numbers 1 - 30, shapes, colors, and prayers.
